Split Screen in OpenOffice; kinda

I posted about missing some favorite features in OpenOffice.org Writer. As I was writing my post, I found a workaround via the OpenOffice.org Writer Forums that gives some semblance of the Word split screen feature.

In Writer, select Window > New. The document opens up in a new window, which gives you the same document in two Writer windows that you can then tile. It’s workable, not elegant.

  1. Be careful with this approach. It is important that you do not make any change in the second window, or if you do, you save mostly edited document last, otherwise a window with accidental small change if saved last will overwrite all your efforts with an earlier version of your document.
