A canoe ride
You’re paddling upstream in a canoe at 8 mph against a 10 mph current. Do you:
A. Pull over to shore and wait for calmer water?
B. Paddle harder?
C. Pull over to shore and portage?
D. Throw the paddle overboard and just ride?
When I first heard this problem, I anticipated an answer. When I compared notes with a colleague, I heard a different answer. The storyteller had yet another answer to the problem, and I’ve been thinking about paddling upstream in a canoe ever since. So, how do you fight a 10 mph current, and what does it say about you?
