Focusing on Squidoo

Posted by mbadger on Apr 27 2007 | Destinations

This week I have been exploring Squidoo Lenses. Squidoo is a simple concept: Allow anyone to easily create focused pages to promote your hobby, expertise, desires, business, or whatever. No technical experience required.

I believe my dogs could create a Squidoo Lens, even Fritz the two year beagle/terrier cocktail. The ease of use allows anyone to quickly establish a web presence, which means the effort becomes creating quality content, not design.

My favorite features of Squidoo are the Del.icio.us bookmarks and the RSS syndication, so I can share my bookmarks and my blog feed in one place. I add a few select writings and links to my several web presences, and Squidoo provides a concentrated look at my online profile.

Unfortunately, Squidoo is ad supported and the ads are everywhere. I’m not against ads, and I don’t mind them in moderation, but on Squidoo, the ads are at the top, left, and bottom of the screen. The site displays “Squidoffers,” which introduce tiny graphic and text ads in addition to the traditional Google ad words.
